GPI History
GPI Holding was founded in 2001 and entered the insurance market as the first private pension fund in Georgia. From the very beginning, the company’s main mission was the development and promotion of social insurance — including health, life, and pension insurance — in the country. In its first year of operation, the company gained the trust of its clients and quickly secured a leading position in the Georgian insurance market.
Since its establishment, GPI Holding has stood out for its innovative vision and focus on development. The company has consistently strived to introduce new approaches and modern standards, establishing itself as one of the pioneers of innovation in the Georgian insurance market.
Leader in the Individual Insurance Market
In 2005, GPI Holding became the first company in Georgia to offer individual health insurance packages. This milestone laid the foundation for a new stage in the development of personal health insurance in the country. Today, the company is the undisputed leader in this segment, holding approximately 55% of the market.
Member of the Vienna Insurance Group
2006 was a pivotal year in GPI’s history. The company became a member of the Vienna Insurance Group, the largest insurance group in Central and Eastern Europe. This was a crucial step that elevated the company to a new level — not only strengthening financial stability but also enabling the sharing of international expertise.
Since 2006, the Vienna Insurance Group has actively supported GPI’s development, backing all major strategic projects and serving as a guarantor of the company’s financial reliability and stability.
Today, the Vienna Insurance Group is the largest investor with an A-class rating in the Georgian insurance market and a leading player in Central and Eastern Europe. The group comprises 50 companies operating in 25 European countries, making it one of the most influential and reliable insurance holdings in the region.
GPI Holding Offices Across Georgia
In 2007, GPI’s services became accessible throughout the entire country. GPI’s insurance consultants began serving clients across all regions of Georgia.
That same year, GPI Holding introduced Georgia’s first online sales system. Customers could purchase policies and request an agent directly through the company’s website, marking a major step forward in convenience and accessibility.
Entry into the Hospital Sector
In 2010, the foundation was laid for the creation of the regional “Curatio” network. In the following years, the company opened another clinic offering a full range of outpatient services, setting a new standard for high-quality medical care.
That same year, GPI actively participated in the national program for the development of the hospital sector and approved a $25 million investment package aimed at building general hospitals and establishing modern infrastructure in 10 regional centers across Georgia. 2019,
based on a strategic decision by its European shareholders, the company fully divested from the hospital sector and redirected its operations entirely to the insurance business and related services.
Digitalization of Insurance
GPI Holding carried out a full-scale transformation of its services and introduced a new support system, designed with a customer-centered, human-oriented approach.
As a result of this transformation, the traditional call center was divided into two sections: medical and non-medical. The medical support team is composed of specialists who are well-versed in health-related matters and are available 24/7 to assist policyholders, addressing issues fully from the very first call.
The non-medical support team is staffed with industry specialists who understand clients’ needs from the first contact and provide dedicated assistance until the issue is completely resolved.
Full Services Online
GPI Holding further refined and improved its digital platforms, making it possible to access the full range of insurance services online. In response to the challenges of the pandemic, GPI was one of the first companies in Georgia to fully transition to remote operations, offering all services to policyholders quickly, easily, and entirely online.
With its first comprehensive insurance application, MyGPI, and the online portal MyGPI.ge, since 2020 all GPI policyholders can complete any insurance operation from home in just two minutes. Through the mobile app and personal account, it is possible to receive reimbursements of any amount online, including hospitalization and maternity expenses. Using GPI’s digital services, it is also possible to request a guarantee letter, which policyholders need to cover the cost of procedures or further treatment. Policyholders can submit requests online for visits to any type of doctor, for medical examinations, lab tests, or to purchase medications at discounted prices.
