Repatriation

Who can use the Tourist Mandatory insurance policy?
The Tourist Mandatory insurance policy is available to foreign citizens temporarily staying in the territory of Georgia for business or tourist purposes.
Since when and why is this policy mandatory?
Starting January 1, 2026, mandatory insurance for tourists visiting Georgia comes into force. From this date, foreign citizens entering Georgia are required to have health and accident insurance as a mandatory condition for entry.
This new regulation aims to protect tourists while also ensuring the financial sustainability of the healthcare system. Previously, travel insurance for foreign visitors was optional. Today, however, a valid insurance policy is a prerequisite for entering Georgia.
How the Insured Can Receive Emergency Medical Services?
In case of an emergency medical situation, the insured must contact the insurance company via the hotline (032 2 505 111) and provide the details of the incident. In this case, the insured will not have to pay for the service.
Alternatively, the insured may independently contact the ambulance brigade or a medical facility, pay the full cost of the service, and then submit the required documentation to the insurance company to request reimbursement.
How the Insured Can Receive Emergency Hospital, Outpatient, or Dental Services?
In case of emergency hospital or outpatient care, emergency hospitalization due to an accident, or emergency dental services, the insured or another interested person must immediately notify the insurance company by calling 032 2 505 111. The notification should include the insured’s name, policy number, medical facility name, and the time of visit. Costs for services received without prior notification will not be reimbursed. Delayed notification is only allowed for objective reasons, which must be supported by appropriate documentation.
- Provider Clinic: The insured pays only their share on-site, or may not need to pay at all.
- Non-Provider Clinic: The insured pays the full service cost on-site and can request reimbursement within 30 days. Required documentation for reimbursement:
- Insurance policy
- Passport / ID card
- Form #100
- Detailed cost breakdown and payment receipt
For emergency dental services, the insured must additionally provide dentograms taken before and after the service.
What documents are required for reimbursement?
If the insured receives medical services at a non-provider clinic or fails to notify the insurance company about the insurance event, they must pay the full amount upfront and then apply for reimbursement.
For reimbursement, the following documents must be submitted to the insurance company:
- Insurance policy
- Passport or ID
- Form #100 (detailing the services received)
- Payment receipt
Are medical expenses covered for additional days during the trip?
If the travel period is extended but the additional days are not included in the policy, medical expenses incurred during this period will not be reimbursed.
